Swimming with Sharks and Suntanning (or...burning)

Today was our final full day in Belize! We're in the in-between space of feeling like the trip has flown by, but also feeling like we've been here forever!

To finish up our trip, we were up early and headed out for an adventure-filled trip to Caye Caulker, and island off of Belize City. After arriving in Belize City, we boarded two boats and enjoyed a trip out to the island. Our first item on the schedule was to go to snorkeling! We snorkeled with fish, turtles, and tons of coral reef before heading to Shark and Stingray Alley. The sharks and stingrays flocked the boat as the guides dropped food for them. What an experience to swim right beside such beautiful creatures! We also got to feed tarpin by dangling bait from our hands!

After that, we set everyone free for lunch and shopping. Many of the kids insisted on "suntanning", which they were cautioned against, but they clearly knew what they were talking about. A few hours later we boarded the boats, along with our red-backed, sun-burnt teenage experts! 😉

With a quick stop for a beach swim along the route, we arrived back in Belize City and headed back to Belmopan. Dinner was an authentic Belizean meal in a backyard restaurant. We tried pupusas, burritos, empanadas, and salbutes!

Tomorrow morning we'll pack up, clean cabins, maybe go for a quick dip in the creek, and be on our way to catch our first flight. Stay tuned for travel updates and please pray that we return to Chilliwack safe and sound!
